The John Day Fossil Beds National Monument contains a fossil record spanning forty million years of the Age of Mammals. Nowhere else in the western hemisphere is an evolutionary story preserved that captures this much time.
Th Sheep Rock Unit is the largest area of the monument and contains the Historic Cant Ranch and Thomas Condon Paleontology Center.
Amazing discoveries have been made in the fossil beds since 1865. Visitors can learn about newest finds and see over 500 dynamic fossils in the Thomas Condon Paleontology Center.
